Black-out

Did you know? On 2007 (yes, my dear, only in 2007) U.N. set  September 15th as the International Day of Democracy. That’s exactly 218 years after the Storming of the Bastille.

It’s so funny to read the preamble, as I say, only in 2007, somewhat a year before the “Big Crash”:

while democracies share common features, there is no single model of democracy and that democracy does not belong to any country or region…democracy is a universal value based on the freely-expressed will of people to determine their own political, economic, social and cultural systems, and their full participation in all aspects of life.

I came up with this info looking precisely for that Celebration, which I would like to propose as the target date,  for a GLOBAL CITIZEN ACTION.

We are wondering about how to address this amazing crisis that has been cast on most of our occidental countries, and of which nobody has a single clue of how and when it will end.

All we (citizens) know, is that these days, either we follow what we are being told, either we follow our convictions.

I know, hundreds of thousands of people still praise their kings and queens, in (what to me is an oxymoron) parliamentary democracies. But, in time, they will find the courage to face this issue.

Some countries’ people may even be quite satisfied with their current governments. Beware! Who knows why the hell that is. I distrust. So in my opinion, it will be an excellent opportunity to remind even them, what democracy is actually about.

So what is my proposal about?

First things first: one thing we must convey to our leaders is that we no longer do as we are told. Baby humans first communication action is to say “NO”. So let’s say “NO” together.

How do we say “NO” together?

It doesn’t take a lot. Just let’s be quiet. REALLY QUIET.

In 2012, September 15th will be Saturday. Perfect!!!!! Here’s the plan:

– No economic activity, which will not be a strike. If you have to go to work, go. Do your work. And that’s it.

– No Internet, no buying newspapers, no TV. Cut all links with outer world. Don’t panic! It will only be a day. Harmless for each one of us, terribly evident for our addressees.

– No power consumption, exception made for the fridge, music, light, etc., to allow us the minimum activity at home.

– No cars, no metro, no buses. If so, bicycles, skates and …. walking.

– No bars, no restaurants, no spending in shopping centres.

– No “Occupy the streets”. In fact, let us leave them as empty as possible.

What to do instead:

– Plan a resting day at home, reading, cooking thai or barbecue or pasta.

– If you are near, go to the beach, mountain. Disappear from view. Get lost (in the good sense).

– Spend time with the family. That will certainly not be a waste of time.

– Get those movies you always wanted to see.

– Think. That is also very useful once in a while.

As you can see, my proposal is not expensive, nor risky, and yet it will prove to be very effective. We will not have to discuss whether abstention in voting is the way or not, or if voting right or left wing parties.

Let’s see what they say the morning after.

I bet it will be fun.

Please share, if you think it might make sense.
