The End

Posted in Crisis, current events, Democracy, Evolution, politics, Power, Society, Violence, war on 06/05/2013 by Living out of Eden

It won’t happen that way. They won’t come all of a sudden, from one day to the other. They are wise and clever, so as to do such thing.

You won’t have military or police forces kicking your doors down, to arrest you, and your family. They will not burn your books. They will not fire laser beams from outer space. They will not trigger a WWIII. All those are too blunt tactics, but mostly, they know they would be putting at risks their own lives.

No, it will be more subtle, more imperceptible.
In fact, it has already started, without too many noticing it yet.

One day, as it has happened to too many already, you will find it difficult to pay your mortgage. Then, your economy will shrink slightly more, and you won’t be able to pay for the oil/gas of your car. You will have to sell both, your house and your car, and see yourself having to rent an appartment, and travel by public transport. Nothing of your own. I know, there are millions of people that have been living that way for years, but not you.

Then it will be Education. No more free public education. You’ll have to work like a slave just for your kids to learn barely, to read and write. Same with your health. After that, you will be left with no tap water, unless you pay (considerable sums) for it.

And you will have no option, you won’t be able to have a B Plan, i.e.: escaping to the woods and seek for your own sustenance, for it will already be forbidden and illegal. You will have to even pay for every second of your life.

What will be your choices then? You’ll be free to survive, or free to die.

In fact, that’s exactly what the Bible says, isn’t it?

Stop feeding the Beast.

The issue with the Beast is that we have never seen it.

But we know it’s there, and we know it must look as gorgeous as Scarlett, and not like any of the images below.

The Beast must be appealing. It’s the only way for it to attract you to its jaws.

At the beginning of times, humans used to blame it on Nature, like when some day a group were crossing the woods and bumped into a giant pile of shit. Of course in the back of their minds they knew it couldn’t be an act of Nature, but the truth was so unbearable, so horrid, that it was way preferrable to avoid the notion that a being of such a size, was real and alive.

From time to time, towns were destroyed, countries invaded and, of course, people devoured by the Beast. But as long as it wasn’t you …  Now, by the end 2012 (in the vespers of the End of the World), we know it. We know it does exist (if we even believe in God, how couldn’t us accept there is a power in this world that sends billions of people to starvation and death).

We know we must fight it.

We are just putting the battle off.

Why is that?

I don’t think anymore it’s because we are denying the truth, or we are blind. I’d rather think that we are making our minds, we are assessing the risks, gathering the wisdom (like the proverb says), to tell things we can change from those we can not. No one sensible goes to a battle without a strategy, some tactics and some chances to win.

The Beast has advantage. It has been dominating people for ages, so it knows how it goes.

Thousands of years ago, mankind was disconnected. When a small town was invaded in any part of the world, it meant anything to the rest of the world. Five hundred years ago, since old Empires became global, a strict control was applied on issues of State and politics. And the populace had no other options than to obey. Nowadays, we have the information, we have the means to communicate, to organize ourselves, and most important, to SURVIVE.

We just have to make a decision of how, when, and where, and make it happen.

For the first time in History, Freedom will have to be conquered by all of us, not “some”, nor “many”, or “almost all”: ALL OF US.

There’s no other way out.

Societies will have to be inclusive and emphatic, or will end up being a mere reflection of any grotty corporation’s structure.

So, where do we start?

It’s not that difficult. Before doing anything else, consider this:

Stop feeding the beast

Cut the flow. Let it know you are not as vulnerable as you were, because you took control on your own life.

This translates in two simple actions:

  • stop voting (The Beast is sustained on you being fully accountable for the situation, you have been in collusion with it, whether you knew it or not)
  • stop consuming senselessly (It also needs desperately your compulsive spending, in order to keep the circle/cycle running)

Changes in our societies, can no longer be conceived as “fate”. To their “designed crisis” we must respond with organized change.

But believe me only in this:

You don’t have to believe me. Just believe in yourself.

Demon Beast

For centuries, in Occident, we’ve been taught that our own success will come from the part, and not from the whole.

What do I mean by this? Too many things. In every aspect of our lives, we have been and still are, biased by approaches that tend, all of them, to keep our minds focused in the details and in separate things. I’d even say that in the most holistic approach, it will still lack of global vision.

That would be perfect, more than enough, in a society that caters all its members with some guarantees for survival. In fact, societies actually did, when referred to elements and Nature  (Well, not really at a 100% – remember Katrina, for instance….).

The issue now is that, beyond natural catastrophes, Society (Global Society,  The “Whole World Society”), has become autoimmune, and is slowly and imperceptibly, destroying itself: from the current financial crisis, to the Oil peak, the demographic crisis, the climate change, access to water, starvation of billions of people, energy consumption (waste), and …. (you name it).

We’ve been taught (not consciously, that’s obvious) that we can get through by ourselves (each one of us, separately), and that we have to have a strategy – individually, to solve our own lives. We have, however, some concepts in common that help (do they help?) somehow all of us, along the way: God and religion, our country, our city, our neighbourhood, and so on, narrowing more and more each time, the circle of exclusion, until … again … there’s only …. YOU, remaining. And that’s it.

That’s the best strategy corporations could have ever achieved. That’s the strategy that best works for their purposes.

On the other hand, what would it be like, to gather forces?

Would it be like “Communism”, “Totalitarianism”, “barbarianism”?

Would we lose our identity if we “melt” in a larger organized group? I’m sure we wouldn’t, but we are still so reluctant of the “others” that seems it will still be a long way to go.

We must start preparing ourselves, find a balance between the “individual” sphere and the social one.

We will have to imagine, learn, adopt, develop, improve, new ways of taking care of ourselves.  Nobody else will.

But, hey! Don’t worry. I know your answer already.

KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)

Maybe there are some of us who still don’t know the meaning of KPIs.

Some of us, instead, might hardly spend a week at work without hearing the expression.

I’m getting tired and upset of hearing about our performances, of effectiveness, productivity at our work, with the outcome of millions of us being made redundant.

I wish we, citizens, could in turn, propose, develop and appraise KPIs for our representatives, and the public thing (Res-publica), as well as in the private corporations environment.

On the other hand, when I try to put things in perspective in our globalized society, many things hardly fit together.

Let’s explore some of what could perfectly be considered as our societies achieved KPIs:

1.- Space Race:

In slightly more than half a century, man managed to land on the moon, put a robot on Mars surface, send a telescope to space to survey the limits of the Universe.

2.- Technology:

In less than 25 years, computers left the big and cumbersome computer centres to become instant, light, cordless and ubiquitous devices integrated in mobile telephone handsets. Not to mention the evolution Internet underwent in the past 15 years.

3.- Travel:

France and Great Britain were capable to develop an airplane that in spite of having proved being unsustainable, actually revolutionised commercial air travel. The path was lit for the future and quite next space travel and tourism.

4.- Weaponry:

Either ground, sea or air machines, reached a state-of-the-art that ranges from unmanned drone planes, to stealth sea battle ships. Missiles have also been part of an amazing evolution both in power and in guidance technology.

5.-GPS

I’m listing it separately for maybe it’s one of the most unexpected leaks from military technology to everyday life.  We can now position ourselves no matter where in the world we are, and send our position through our mobiles to all our friends, as well as locate our pictures with a precision equal to that of NASA.

6.- Webcams:

Altogether with many of the KPIs above, I choose webcams not for the simple fact that you could broadcast your life in real time into the WWW, but mainly because through them, we could be in position to see almost ANYTHING WE’D WANT TO. And if we can’t, it’s not due to a technological issue.

I’m sure that any of you who will read this post, being in the industry that you are, will be able to make a more exhaustive and thorough list of the respective cutting-edge breakthroughs.

However, I wish someone could explain to me in the most rational terms, how all the previous magnificent achievements of man, match with the following chronologically ordered facts and how no one could prevent/foresee them in time:

1.- 911 attacks to WTC and Pentagon

2.- Enron/Arthur Andersen crisis

3.- Lehman Brothers bankruptcy

4.- Global financial synchronic crisis

Any CEO in the world, who failed to obtain acceptable results as per in the objectives of the company (not to say show losses) in a balance sheet, would be – correct me if I’m wrong – fired immediately, no matter what.

So how is it that nobody was held responsible for the occurrence of those big four failures of the “most secure” both military and financial systems in the world?

How many organisms have accountability in the above facts?

Why is it that apparently, we have to believe in good faith, that all of them were unpredictable events?

Why do we believe so?

Don’t YOU have ANY questions?
